From rattling and clicking to screeching and squealing, many different noises can be associated with your car. Certain sounds are a normal part of driving, such as road conditions. But other times, the noises that start suddenly and can be the sign of a problem. If one of these noises is causing concern, it may be time to visit our service technicians.

Squeaky Brakes

A number of issues can cause squeaking in the braking system. Brakes exposed to rain, salt, snow, or other environmental conditions can develop rust or get dirty, which also contributes to squeaking sounds. There can also be a problem with a braking component that causes squeaking, such as worn rotors or brake pads.

Engine Rattling

Rattling or shaking can be a sign of an incorrect mixing of air and fuel. This problem may be caused by using the wrong type of fuel for your engine. The rattling sound happens when multiple flame fronts are formed in the engine cylinder and cause an early ignition. An ignition that takes place too soon causes rattling and vibrating. Along with the wrong fuel grade, a sensor or an improperly functioning EGR valve can also cause rattling.

Engine Clicking

Engine clicking sounds can also have a few sources. A valve train that isn't properly adjusted is a common cause of clicking noises, which means it should be checked first. A bearing attached to a rod can go bad and cause the clicking when the rod starts knocking around. Worn or damaged seals and gaskets can also cause the engine clicking noise.

Knocking From Under the Hood

Knocking underneath the hood is another noise associated with car problems. A knocking sound typically has one of two sources. It can be due to a crankshaft being worn out, and it can also happen when something is wrong with the transmission. Both issues should prompt a call to a mechanic for a thorough evaluation and repairs.

Engine Squealing

A loud squealing sound coming from the engine can be caused by a worn serpentine belt or a worn-out tensioner that can't supply the serpentine belt with sufficient pressure. A bad roller bearing can also be the source of the sound.
