2019 Lexus UX Review

WHAT'S NEW FOR THE 2019 LEXUS UX?

The 2019 Lexus UX is a new subcompact crossover that has angular styling with a spindle grille and sharp lines. It includes a fuel efficient four cylinder engine with plenty of safety tech. The small size makes it the ideal vehicle for maneuvering around the city.

The UX incorporates innovative versatility with options like onboard Wi-Fi and remote smartwatch capabilities. You can also get concierge access as well as emergency assistance.

Other options include fog lamps, rear parking aid, a heated steering wheel, and remote trunk release. A backup camera, adaptive cruise control, auto-off headlights, and keyless start make it convenient to drive while an AM/FM stereo, CD player, satellite radio, and smart device integration make the UX fun. Comfort comes from optional heated front seats, driver lumbar, and dual zone AC.

WHICH TRIMS & FEATURES ARE AVAILABLE FOR 2019?

The 2019 Lexus UX provides you with agile performance in a smart size crossover. The UX 200 Luxury comes with premium features plus the Lexus Memory System, power rear doors with a kick sensor for easy opening, and blind spot monitoring. The UX 250h offers you the best in innovation and efficiency by providing standard technology like Apple CarPlay. Once you move up into the UX 250h Luxury trim level you will discover even more amenities being offered, and the UX 200 F Sport provides exclusive 18-inch wheels, suspension tuning, and bolstered seats. Finally, you have the UX 250h F Sport with perforated leather trimmed seats, active sound control, and F Performance digital gauges with moving dials.

POWER & PERFORMANCE OPTIONS

The 2019 UX is available in two versions. The UX 200 has a 169 horsepower 2.0 liter inline-4 that has a torque output of 151 pound to feet while at 4,800 rpm. It keeps the power at the front wheels with a continuously variable transmission. This unusual transmission choice allows a single gear to launch the vehicle from a stop. It then switches itself over to the CVT. This design doesn't require a lot of space due to the smaller pulleys and belts it uses. The result is a capacity to do 0 to 60 in 8.9 seconds with a top speed of 118 mph.

Choose the UX 250h option and you will get a 2.0 liter inline-4 that runs on the Atkinson lean burning cycle. This provides you with the ultimate in efficiency, and it includes a CVT that is electronically controlled along with a nickel-metal hydride battery found under the rear seat. The dual motors provide power to all four wheels. The rear one is responsible for all-wheel-drive traction during speeds up to 44 mph. At that point, it stops power delivery and the UX 250h kicks in and controls the front-drive mode. You can expect 176 horsepower and 0 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds with speeds that top out at 110 mph.

LEXUS UX SAFETY FEATURES

The Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is one of the most comprehensive safety systems offered by Lexus. It is standard on the 2019 UX with excellent features such as daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, and built-in cameras that offer road sign information. You also get the 10-airbag system that can tell whether a seat is occupied by an adult or child for optimum protection.
