The 2019 Lexus ES is the seventh generation of the Lexus ES and is a great refresh for the popular sedan. The trims are built on the Lexus Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which is a more rigid chassis than previously used. It allows for a longer, wider and lower car. An added brace behind the back seats for additional structural stability is new but means that the rear seats cannot be folded down completely.

An eight-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission brings more power efficiently to the wheels, and the Standard Lexus Safety System 2.0 offers a more comprehensive suite of driver assists than ever before. Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa are both new features for the Lexus ES, and Apple CarPlay will be included initially with available navigation systems and then later for all models (Apple CarPlay cannot be added after purchase). Amazon Alexa will initially only be available with Android phones, with the iPhone app becoming available later in 2018. The cabin has been restyled and has an available 12.3 inch display and multiple charging options.

The Lexus ES traditionally has two basic trims, the ES 350 and the ES 300h. For 2019, the Lexus comes in an F Sport trim as well. The F Sport will have dark accents, a rear spoiler, front sport seats and distinctive 19-inch wheels. The two other trims will feature 17- and 18-inch wheels. The ES 350 has a 302-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 267 pounds-feet of torque. The ES 300h features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 215 horsepower.

The ES 350 includes a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 267 pounds-feet of torque and 302 horsepower, which is a slight increase. This V-6 engine is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission that offers better acceleration and overall efficiency. The ES 300h utilizes a new hybrid drive system, which pairs a four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine to an electric motor for 215 horsepower. This system promises to deliver an average of 44 miles per gallon combined.

The Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is the most comprehensive safety package yet for the Lexus ES. Standard on all trims, the Safety System+ 2.0 offers the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection that can detect pedestrians in low light and bicyclists in daylight. Lane Tracing Assist helps monitor lane markings and forward vehicles to assist drivers keep the vehicle centered in the lane, and the Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist also helps monitor visible lane markings. If the car leaves the lane while being driven above 32 miles per hour, the system will alert the driver.

Road Sign Assist will present road sign information on the instrument panel or the available Head-Up Display via the built-in camera. The All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control assists drivers by maintaining a pre-set speed and distance from traffic ahead. If your car gets too close to the vehicle in front, your car will automatically slow or even stop. Intelligent High Beams will switch back and forth between high and low beams, depending on the traffic.
